At GitHub’s own list prices, $10,000 is about a year of the paid platform for a team of ten. The credit is one balance across GitHub Enterprise, Copilot, Advanced Security & Actions, so you decide where it goes rather than having it split for you, and it runs for 12 months from approval.

What the credit is worth against the free GitHub you use now

Almost every founder reading this already runs on free GitHub, so the useful question is what actually changes & what it would otherwise cost. The figures below are GitHub’s own list prices, read from its pricing pages in September 2026.

Copilot for the whole team The free plan gives what GitHub itself calls limited chat & agent usage. Copilot Pro+ at $39 per user a month adds premium models, the cloud agent & code review, across the team rather than the one or two seats a startup usually rations it to.
Code scanning & secret protection Not in the free plan at all. GitHub sells them as separate products: Code Security at $30 per active committer a month & Secret Protection at $19. This is the pair that enterprise buyers ask about in security questionnaires.
SSO, audit log & org policy Enterprise only, from $21 per user a month. These are the controls you discover you need in the week a customer asks for them, not before.
What it adds up to A team of ten, one year, at those prices: Enterprise $2,520, Copilot Pro+ $4,680, Code Security $3,600. That is $10,800 of list price against a credit of $10,000.

Two caveats so the arithmetic stays honest: GitHub shows the $21 Enterprise rate as a first-year price, & Advanced Security bills per active committer rather than per seat, so your own total will move with the shape of your team. The conclusion holds either way. For a small team this credit is roughly a year of the paid platform.

What you get

The credit lands on a GitHub Enterprise account and draws down against whatever you actually turn on, which is why the spread matters more than the number.

  • $10,000 against Enterprise licence costs, the base the rest of the platform sits on.
  • Copilot in full, including licences, premium models & the agentic coding and review features, rather than a limited seat count.
  • GitHub Advanced Security: code scanning, secret protection & Dependabot running inside the pipeline instead of as a separate purchase.
  • Actions and other metered products, with GitHub Enterprise carrying 50,000 included Actions minutes a month before the meter starts.
  • One balance, your allocation. Nothing is ring-fenced per product, so a team that cares about Copilot can spend it there and a team facing a security review can spend it on scanning.

What founders use it for

Ten thousand dollars of Enterprise credit tends to go on the things a seed-stage team knows it needs but cannot yet justify as a line item.

Putting Copilot in front of the whole team at once. Per-seat AI tooling is the spend founders defer longest. A credit balance removes the argument for a year and lets you measure whether it actually changes throughput.

Clearing a security questionnaire. Enterprise buyers ask for code scanning, secret detection & dependency alerts. Having them on in the repo turns a long procurement thread into a short answer.

Moving off a free org before it hurts. SSO, audit trails & org-level policy are the things you discover you need the week a customer asks, not before.

Running heavier CI without watching the meter. 50,000 Actions minutes plus credit on top is enough that the pipeline stops being the thing you ration.

Why this one needs a partner, and how that works

InnMind is an official GitHub for Startups partner, and that affiliation is what makes this claimable. GitHub states that eligible startups must be affiliated with a GitHub for Startups partner, so a founder applying cold does not qualify, whatever the stage or the round size. Elsewhere in this catalogue a partner route mostly raises a number, so going direct still gets you something. Here, going direct gets you nothing.

Worth comparing with GitLab, which is the opposite shape. The GitLab programme is open to anyone who meets its funding and size bar and you apply to it directly. GitHub is closed unless a partner brings you. If you are weighing the two, that difference decides how you apply as much as the products do.

So the claim runs through the InnMind app. Open this deal in the app and click Access Perk. The link there carries the partner affiliation GitHub requires into its application, which is why you start from the app rather than from GitHub’s public startups page. Applying from the public page puts you in as an unaffiliated applicant, and that is the one thing that disqualifies you.

How to claim it

  1. Check the four conditions first, because they are cumulative: partner affiliation, outside funding up to Series B, no GitHub Enterprise plan in the past six months, and no GitHub credits before.
  2. Sign in to InnMind with an active Premium membership.
  3. Open this deal in the InnMind app and click Access Perk. The link carries the partner affiliation into GitHub’s application, so start from there rather than from GitHub’s public startups page.
  4. Complete GitHub’s application and name the Enterprise account the credits should attach to. They cannot be moved later.
  5. Have a payment method ready. GitHub authorises it within a few weeks of onboarding and locks the account if that fails.
  6. Put a reminder in month eleven. Whatever is still running when the credit ends moves to paid billing by itself.

Conditions worth reading before you apply

GitHub publishes its programme terms in full. These are the ones that carry a cost if you meet them by surprise, so they are here in plain sight rather than buried in an acceptance email.

A card is required GitHub runs an authorisation charge on your payment method within a few weeks of onboarding. No valid method, or a failed authorisation, and the account is locked.
Billing starts on its own When the credit runs out or the 12 months end, whichever comes first, active products move to standard paid billing automatically and charge the card on file.
Downgrading forfeits the rest You can leave Enterprise at any time, but doing it before the credit is spent forfeits the remainder, and you cannot reapply.
One redemption, ever The offer is once per startup, and prior GitHub Enterprise credits rule you out. That includes credits received through Microsoft, so a team that took them there is outside this programme.
Credits do not move They attach to the Enterprise account named in the application and cannot be transferred to another one.
Watch the owner inbox Programme and billing notices go to the Enterprise account owner’s primary email address, and GitHub puts the responsibility for reading them on you.
No data residency GitHub does not support Enterprises with data residency on this offer. It accepts standard Enterprise Cloud accounts on GitHub.com only, which rules out teams that need their data held in a specific region.

Who is eligible

Partner affiliation Required, and the condition InnMind satisfies. There is no unaffiliated route.
Funding Outside funding received, up to Series B or earlier. A fully bootstrapped team does not clear this one.
New to Enterprise Not on a GitHub Enterprise plan within the past six months. The rule looks backwards as well as forwards.
No prior credits No GitHub credits or Enterprise licences received before, including any through Microsoft.
Account type Standard Enterprise Cloud on GitHub.com. Data residency is not supported.
InnMind plan A paid InnMind plan, from Fundraising Core. A free account browses the catalogue & this deal opens on a paid plan.
If you do not qualify GitHub points teams that miss the bar at a standard trial of Enterprise, Advanced Security & Copilot instead.

Terms worth knowing

This is GitHub for Startups, run by GitHub, and acceptance is at GitHub’s discretion rather than something an InnMind membership settles. Every figure and condition here is GitHub’s own as published in September 2026: $10,000 in credits across the Enterprise platform for up to 12 months from approval, applied to the Enterprise account named in the application and usable against Enterprise licences, Copilot licences and premium models, Advanced Security and other metered products. GitHub states that participants must be affiliated with a GitHub for Startups partner, must have received outside funding up to Series B or earlier, must not have been on a GitHub Enterprise plan in the past six months, and must not have received GitHub credits or Enterprise licences before, including through Microsoft. It also states that credits are non-transferable, that an authorisation charge runs on the payment method within a few weeks of onboarding and a failure locks the account, that products move to standard paid billing automatically once credits are exhausted or the term ends, that downgrading early forfeits the remaining balance and bars reapplication, and that data residency is not supported on this offer. GitHub says approved applicants receive an onboarding email within 24 hours. Its previous startup offer has been discontinued. Questions about the programme go to GitHub’s startups team, and Copilot issues to GitHub support. Deal details verified September 2026.

Questions founders ask

How do I get GitHub for Startups credits?

Open this deal from your InnMind account and click Access Perk. That link carries the partner affiliation GitHub requires into its application, so you start from there rather than from the public startups page. GitHub then confirms eligibility and applies the credits to your Enterprise account.

Can I apply to GitHub for Startups on my own?

No. GitHub states that eligible startups must be affiliated with a GitHub for Startups partner. It is an entry condition rather than a better tier, so an unaffiliated application does not qualify at any stage or round size.

Who qualifies for GitHub for Startups?

Four conditions apply together: affiliation with a GitHub for Startups partner, outside funding received up to Series B or earlier, no GitHub Enterprise plan within the past six months, and no GitHub credits or Enterprise licences received before.

Can a bootstrapped startup get GitHub for Startups credits?

No. GitHub requires that applicants have received outside funding, so a team that has raised nothing does not qualify however strong its revenue or traction.

What can the $10,000 be spent on?

GitHub applies the credit to your Enterprise account and it draws down against Enterprise licence costs and eligible add-ons, including Copilot licences, premium models and agentic features, Advanced Security, Actions and other metered products. Nothing is ring-fenced per product.

How long do the GitHub credits last?

Up to 12 months from approval. They expire when the balance is spent or at the end of the 12 months, whichever comes first, and anything still running then moves to standard paid billing automatically.

Do I need a credit card for GitHub for Startups?

Yes. GitHub runs an authorisation charge on your payment method within a few weeks of onboarding, and says that having no valid method on file, or a failed authorisation, results in the account being locked.

How is this different from GitLab for Startups?

GitLab runs a direct programme you apply to yourself if you meet its funding and headcount bar. GitHub is partner-gated, so the application only works when a partner brings you in. Both require outside funding, so the practical difference is how you apply rather than who is eligible.

Do I need a paid InnMind plan to claim it?

Yes. GitHub is one of the deals reserved for paid InnMind plans, from Fundraising Core. A free account still opens the rest of the catalogue.
